Hi, I'm Mark Colebank.
I build Drupal websites for organizations that need them done right: secure, accessible, easy to manage, and built to last. When you work with Colebank Communications, you work with me. I'm the person who listens to your goals, plans the project, and writes the code.
From industrial design to the web
My career started with a BFA in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Industrial design taught me to begin with the person using the product, and that habit has shaped every website I've built since. A good site isn't just attractive. It's organized around what visitors need to find and what editors need to do.
I moved into web development in the 1990s and have been building for the web for nearly 30 years. I've seen it grow from static HTML pages to responsive, content-driven platforms and now to AI-assisted tools, and I've kept learning at every stage.
Built for high-stakes websites
For more than 14 years, I've worked on federal and state government websites, where security, accessibility, and reliability are requirements, not extras.
As a federal contractor, I managed the development team on the responsive redesign of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences website. That project covered 3,500 pages and required navigation eleven levels deep, back when large sites were first going mobile. I later led a designer and a team of developers on the mobile redesign of the National Toxicology Program's 11,000-page site, including its databases, forms, and search tools.
Since 2020, I've worked as a Drupal specialist on North Carolina's Digital Commons, a Drupal multisite platform that serves nearly 100 state agency websites. My work there includes developing the front-end theme for the redesigned NC.gov citizen portal and backend custom module development.
That experience is exactly what I bring to businesses, nonprofits, and ministries: government-grade standards without government-sized budgets.
Always learning
Drupal keeps evolving, and so do I. Recent training includes:

I've also presented at Drupal GovCon in Washington, D.C., and at DrupalCamp Asheville on topics such as platform cost savings, page-building user experience, and responsive redesign.
Working smarter with AI
For the past year, I've made AI a daily part of my workflow, using tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and ChatGPT Codex for research, code review, testing, and documentation. AI helps me deliver faster and at lower cost, but I review every line before it ships. I also help clients put Drupal's growing AI features to practical use on their own sites, with sensible guardrails.
How I work
I keep things simple and honest. You'll get a clear scope, straightforward pricing, and regular previews as your site takes shape. I explain technical choices in plain language, and I'm still around after launch for updates, support, and whatever comes next.
Beyond the code
I'm based in the Wake Forest, North Carolina area. Outside client work, I write Bible study curriculum and speak at both professional developer conferences and church teaching opportunities. Serving people well matters to me, in ministry and in business.
